Trip Dates: 9 – 13 Feb 2026
As caretakers of Long Plain Hut, in the Kosciuszko National Park, we will be doing a few maintenance jobs on the hut, mostly painting. The hut is in fairly good condition, so we should only need to do light rubbing back to prepare for painting. The plan is to paint the whole of the front wall of the hut and parts of the other sides, where required. Most work will be done on the days of 10 to 12. Those who wish to stay longer, can stay an extra day on 14 Feb.
We will be camping at Long Plain Horsecamp, a mere 200 metres from the hut.
We have 5 nights booked, so even if there is some poor weather, there should still be plenty of time for a trip to Yarrangobilly thermal pool, Blue Water Holes, or Currango Homestead.
Equipment: Please bring a paint scraper, if you have one. NPWS will provide the paint & brushes and an awesome work vista.
Note: To participate on this trip you’ll need to register with NPWS on their VIP (volunteer portal) for their insurance purposes. Your VIP work party hours can add towards a Parks Pass. If you are not yet registered with NPWS as a volunteer, then you can find information on how to register by clicking on this link: NPWS VIP Registrations.
Qualifying Trip: This trip is open to visitors as a membership “qualifying trip”. Visitors who wish to attend as a prospective members, can submit their request to attend this trip on the Qualifying Trip – RSVP page.
Make your own way to Long Plain, off the Snowy Mountains Highway. Otherwise, contact Margaret Anderson if you want to travel with her.

Trip Dates: 7 – 9 Mar 2026
Meeting point: Williamsdale on the Monaro Highway (opposite the old service station site) at 9am Saturday morning
We will be heading down past Omeo to have a drive on the Haunted Stream track which crosses the Haunted stream 54 times and takes approximately 2 ½ hours to drive. After a leisurely drive south, we will be camping on Saturday night at Native Dog campground in the Victorian high country.
Sunday morning will be an 08:30 start as we head across Limestone road to Benambra and Omeo. After a quick look around Omeo we will head to the Cassilis historic area before heading to Cassilis and the start of the Haunted Stream track. After completing the track, we will head back to Omeo and stay the night at Omeo before heading back to Canberra via Corryong and either Cooma or Gundagai depending on people’s preferences.
At this stage we will be staying in the caravan park in Omeo on Sunday night for the shower facilities and the opportunity to have a pub dinner at the Golden Age Hotel
This trip will primarily be led by Mackenzie and we encourage any ladies who want to do/try some off-road driving to push their partner out of the drivers seat and have a go.
– We will try and arrange to drop off camper trailers at the caravan park on Sunday morning so people can do Haunted stream track without them.
– There is a long drop and not much else at Native Dog.
– It would be prudent to fill your tanks at Jindabyne as there is no fuel between there and Omeo.
– This trip is camper trailer friendly
Qualifying Trip: This trip is open to visitors as a membership “qualifying trip”. Visitor’s name, phone contact (mobile) and email should be emailed to Website Manager.

Trip Dates: 15 Mar 2026
Destination: Olive View Cafe, Currawang, NSW.
Meeting point: 9am, at the Olive View Cafe, Currawang.
Trip Leader is now David Wade.
This is a bit of a different BLC (Breakfast, Lies & Coffee) run. To break with tradition, our meeting point is our breakfast spot. It’s the Olive View Cafe, at Currawang, on the Federal Highway just north of Collector. We will meet there at 9 am, and we will go for a drive after that.
Our intention is to explore some of the lesser known roads in and out of Taralga. From the Olive View Cafe we will zip up the highway and approach Taralga from the east through Towrang, Swallowtail Pass, and Bannaby, and depart towards the west through Roslyn, Grabben Gullen, and Breadalbane back to Collector. The Collector return loop is some 225 km. Fuel is available in Crookwell. Please note, Swallowtail Pass is not recommended for conventional 2WD vehicles.
Lunch will be in Taralga and we suggest that people carry their lunch with them. The park just down the hill from theTaralga General Store is a nice spot to gather. The store has a limited range of pies and sandwiches, but our numbers would probably clean them out.
Options for participants are: breakfast only, leave the group at Taralga, or complete the full trip.
We should be back in Collector around 3 pm.
