So, the first Breakfast, Lies & Coffee trip for a long time interested a number of folks, with 23 attending this event.
This was an easy drive to the Merino Café in Gunning, NSW, with most of the group meeting in Hall Village in ACT. Tony and Belinda joined the group along the way, whilst John and Ingrid met us at Gunning, having taken the Sutton/Gundaroo Road route from Queanbeyan.
We headed off, around half past, and headed out on the Barton Highway before taking a right hand turn a short distance up the road to get onto Namima Road. A leisurely drive in the country along Namima Road past smoked meats, chocolates and the odd skippy before picking up Tony and Belinda and turning right, onto Murrumbateman Road. A short distance before taking a left turn onto Dicks Creek Road before finally getting gravel surfaces and associated dust.
Another righthand turn into Yass River Road took us down and over the Yass River causeway before connecting with Gundaroo Road. A left turn onto Gundaroo Road took us out to Gunning on the Old Hume Highway. We parked up outside the café and sate at our allotted tables on the footpath adjacent to the Highway. There are options to sit inside or out the back, but our location allowed us to sit in the sun, or shade if you could get it, and watch the world quietly pass by.
We were treated to a show with the Haulin’ on the Hume convoy passing through displaying a variety of shiny or aging, large and small, haulage vehicles. Some may call them trucks. I am sure many of the came through more than once….
Breakfast booking was 10am and we were there about then. We then proceeded to coffee, Lie and Breakfast and, for some, Coffee again! So, the acronym was blown. After breakfast the group had an opportunity to wander the town, look at the buildings or go shopping.
Around Midday, we departed Gunning with a few having excused themselves and heading home directly (to avoid having to write this trip report). The remainder of the group heading out towards Lake George via Collector Road and One Tree Road along the escarpment.
We stopped to have a gander over the lake, to see how much it had reduced, and whilst parked up we were treating to some kite flying. These kites were so big they carried the handlers up and away with them. Some may call it Paragliding. We watched in awe, some watched in their cars, as these brave souls soared above the eagles, which seemed be above the specified ceiling height.
After this little spectacle, arranged by the trip leader of course, we headed home via Gundaroo.
Thank you all for joining me. I hope the first timers and the visitors enjoyed the social aspect of our club and the ability to get together without engaging low range. I look forward to catching up more with you on the Heritage Drive and future BLC’s. I also hope this shows others in the club that it is not hard to organise these, and anybody is welcomed to do so.
