Event Details
This driver education day will give participants an introduction to the sort of tracks that would be encountered in the High Country.
Downfall Fire Trail departs from the Kings Highway and, after an initial drive, climbs steeply to track along a ridge with a loose descent after which it meanders back to the bitumen.
There are a couple of significant mounds on the track which may lead to a gentle recovery for some long wheelbase vehicles.
We will take our time to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to test the features of their vehicle and gain experience on a more technical track.
Depending on the time it takes us to complete Downfall Fire Trail we may offer a loop around the Western Distributor with a water crossing and a look at Mount Mogood.
There is some vegetation on the track which may lead to some minor pinstriping of vehicles.
High clearance 4WDs are recommended for this trip. If in doubt please contact the trip leader.
Make sure that you bring morning tea, lunch and adequate hydration as there are no facilities available on the day once we leave Braidwood.

This will be a day trip into the Brindabella National Park.
Close to Canberra, and whether you’re a new or an old hand, it’s a chance to enjoy a day driving through the bush with some local fauna and flora.
The tracks we’ll take are TBC at this stage (we have a couple of options), but we’ll have an extended lunch break at Lowell’s Flat on the Goodradigbee River, so bring your camp chair.
There will be time to light the bbq, relax, and enjoy the river.
We’ll take the short route out, with a small detour to drive up to the top of Mt Coree. Hopefully the weather will be kind and we’ll get some good views.
A vehicle with low range and reasonable ground clearance is needed. The need for recovery is very unlikely, but bring your recovery gear just in case.
Please bring water, lunch, and snacks as there are no servicews available during the day.
There is an opportunity to go for a swim, so bring your swimmers and towel.

The Outback Way (Australia’s Longest Shortcut) is a route between Laverton in WA and Winton in Qld. https://outbackway.org.au/
Event Details
The Outback Way (Australia’s Longest Shortcut) is a route between Laverton in WA and Winton in Qld.
The distance from Laverton to Winton is 2,720km. There is currently around 1400km of unsealed road, and that is reducing with the aim of having a fully sealed road by 2031. And for those who are keen you could always start in Perth and finish in Cairns, a total of 4,615kms.
Eric and Paulette Rigter are planning a trip for May-June 2024. The dates are not yet locked in.
Some people do this trip in around 10 days, but in order to truly enjoy the journey the Rigter’s are taking around 3 weeks.
They are planning on spending 2 additional nights at Yalara, 2 additional nights at Kings Canyon, 3 additional nights at Glen Helen and 4 additional nights in Alice Springs.
The maximum distance between fuel stops is around 300kms, so no need for jerry cans.
In the WA section permits are required to travel through aboriginal lands, with no permits required in the NT or QLD sections.
This trip is limited to 6 vehicles.
