Regional Queensland Tour – to Bamaga and (out) Back
1 June - 4 AugustFree
Due to initial high demand, this trip is FULL and is currently waitlisted.
A group of Regional Queensland Tourists is heading up to Bamaga and (out) Back, taking our trailers to the tip and touring through Regional Queensland before dipping into South Australia on our way home.
This group of 15 members will travel in 8 vehicles and 7 trailers (2 x hybrids) up through the Qld midlands to visit Carnarvon and Porcupine Gorges and drop into some of the flood affected towns such as Charters Towers. Then it is through some lave tubes before heading from Mareeba for the core of the trip up the Cape. About a week and a half from Mareeba to the Tip and another week and a half heading back towards Cooktown. We will be staying at a variety of camp sites including commercial campgrounds and National Parks. From the Cooktown area we will head across to the Gulf along the Savannah Way, more gorges, a train ride for some and maybe some fishing for others before heading to Lawn Hill (Boodjamulla) NP for a few days.
After that, it is time to head home through Mt Isa down to Birdsville and back through Coongie, Innamincka and Thargomindah before stopping in at Carawinya NP and Rose Isle Station.
Word of mouth has left us in a position where the trip is already full, although others can join on the return journey from Mt Isa.
Most of the trip is expected to be easy, however we are unsure on the conditions of roads on the Cape and some of the flood affected midland areas. We will be towing on a small section of the OTL and may do some sand driving without the trailers.
